Friday, Friendships, and Fajitas!

It has been an interesting week, but in a very good way! This week seems to have flown by, but it was awesome because I made a decision about something that I didn't even realize I needed to make a decision about yet. It was an issue that had been in limbo, but it was fine in limbo for awhile. But then, something shook it out of limbo and now I no longer need to even think about it, even though I wasn't thinking about it that much to begin with.

What is interesting is that once I'd made this decision, support for it came from various places. It seems that many people saw what I needed to see before I did and were just waiting for me to come to the place where my vision was clear and I could move forward. It was good to hear that others had seen the things I was finally seeing and that there was support for what I was doing.

So yeah, that was accidentally cryptic, but basically, I am very happy to have had the weight removed from my mind and heart (that I didn't even know was all that weighty until it was gone) and now I can go forward. YAY!

This week, I also spent time with two friends I hadn't seen in awhile. It was wonderful to sit and chat with them and catch up on life. One of my friends lives literally around the corner, but I hadn't seen her for almost two years. Life just gets in the way, but we finally got together yesterday for lunch and chatted for almost two hours over some fantastic fajitas at Gringo's Mexican Restaurant

Last night, another friend came over. It's only been a couple of weeks since I last saw her. Her visit was an impromptu thing, but it was a lot of fun! I ordered pizza and we hung out on the couch and talked for almost four hours about this, that, and everything else!! It's nice to go out to eat, but sometimes the best conversations happen over some pepperoni pizza, stretched out on the couch with shoes off.

Tomorrow, I am seeing another friend at her house. We're having movie night. We've been planning that for a few weeks. So it's been a great week of strengthening good friendships and relaxing with people I enjoy!

Today

A random collection of images that speak to how I felt today. Yeah, it was kind of a mixed bag sort of day.

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

So I went to donate blood today. I started donating blood on a regular basis in October 2002. I had just started law school the previous August and the local blood bank had a blood drive at my school. I'm not sure why they believed it was a good idea to try and collect from soulless, bloodless, lawyer wanna-bes, but in any case, I lined up with several of my other classmates to let them dig in and give it a try.

Ever since then, I have tried to donate every two months. You can donate blood every 56 days so I usually try to do it at the beginning of January and then March, May, July, September, and November. It is generally about every 60 days for me. I do not always make this goal, it depends on what is going on in my life, but if I don't do it all six times that I can, I try to make at least three. My mother has received over 25 blood transfusions in the last few years due to health issues so I feel that my donating blood is a way of showing my appreciation for all she has been given.

So today when I went to donate blood, my veins were rather angry and uncooperative. Their attitude was something akin to "We're doing our job of shuffling your blood to and fro internally where it belongs and you want us to funnel it out through some big old sharp object that totally doesn't belong here and is stuck right through the middle of us? SCREW OFF LADY!"

There was quite a bit of needle poking and digging in my arm before my veins decided to quit being bitter. Anyway, the blood is donated, I got a small bag of Oreos and a coupon for a free pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream (aka nectar of the Gods down here in Texas) and a T-shirt. And my veins are continuing to pump blood internally so I guess they've forgiven me.

I frequently plea with people to donate blood and this will be no exception. PLEASE -  IF YOU CAN DONATE BLOOD, DO IT!! It is such an easy way to save so many lives.
